India, 9th country to register sex offenders

Why in the discussion?

Recently, the National Registry of Sex Offenders was introduced to provide information about the culprits of sexual crimes in the form of data in the country. It is notable that in the beginning, this registry contains names and details of approximately 4.4 lakh people convicted of various sexual crimes across the country.

In this database, the information received about people found guilty of sexual offenses after 2005 has been collected, in which details of the culprit, name, address, photograph and fingerprint have been included.

After the gangrape case of 2012 in New Delhi, it was proposed to start this kind of registry.
The database will be monitored by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). The NCRB will also look into whether the state police is updating records on time or not.

A record of people who committed a crime has been kept.
Databases will be involved in rape, gang rape, sexual offenses committed by the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenders Act (POCSO) and sedatives guilty of sedition.

The National Registry of Sex Offenders, along with another portal, cybercrime.gov.
In was also launched in which people will be able to file online complaints about child pornography, child sexual abuse material and rape and content promoting gang rape etc.
This will not only help the victims / complainants, but will also help civil society organizations and responsible citizens report secretly such complaints.
The complaints registered through this portal will be checked by the police officers of the concerned State / UTs.
Apart from this, the victim or complainant can track his report by using the 'Report and Track' option using his mobile number.
9th country to create national database on sexual harassment
India has become the ninth country of the world that started the NDSO (National Database on Sexual Offenders).
Other countries with a national database on sexual harassment are US, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, Trinidad and Tobago.
It is notable that only America is the only country in these countries where this type of database is available to the general public, in other countries this database is accessible only to law enforcement agencies for the purpose of "checking and monitoring".
